Crock Pots Making Your Halloween Party Easy & Fun Too!

Halloween is a time when people young and old want to get together and just have fun.  Whether truly a child or just a child at heart, Halloween is a time to get silly and play make-believe.  You can take considerably time and effort out of cooking for your Halloween bash simply by replacing traditional cooking with crock pot cooking.  Crock Pot recipes allow you to throw your ingredients in, turn it on, run off to work or errands, and come home to a finished dish.  Crock Pots also have the added convenience of doubling as a serving dish for dips and fondue.

A Dose of Witches Brew

Slow cooker appetizer recipes are just as desirable as other preparation methods, but without all the time in front of a stove.  Making Crock Pot appetizers that are specialized for Halloween is easy!

It just so happens that a Crock Pot is shaped much like an item Halloween is famous for:  a witch’s cauldron!  Cover your Crock Pot in aluminum foil, make a handle out of a coat hanger, and put on a costume.  You just went from mom making to stew to witch stirring brew.

A good recipe to use as your “spell potion” is an easy Crock Pot dip recipe such as queso.  Simply throw in some Velveeta, Rotel, salsa or fresh diced tomatoes and peppers, turn it on low and let it melt.  Check the international foods section of your local grocery store and pick up a bag of blue corn chips (they look almost black) or look for special Halloween colored bags of major brand tortillas.  To make it look even more like a cauldron, use an aged large wooden spoon or even grab a stick out of the yard (be sure to boil it for about 20 seconds first!) and use it for the serving spoon.  Check out our other tried and true slow cooker appetizers found under the link on this page.

Crock Pot dishes for the Main Course

Using a Crock Pot for the main dish will make cooking for many at the same time a simple chore and will allow you more time to enjoy the party instead of watching the grill or oven.  Also, unlike oven cooking, it won’t heat up the whole house.

Preparing burgers in your slow cooker is a great way to save time.  To make a great Crock Pot Hamburger Steak recipe, combine ground beef, celery salt, black pepper, bread crumbs and milk and pat it into hamburger patties the same way you would for the skillet or the grill.  Add a mix of your favorite steak sauce and spices such as A-1, Heinz 57, BBQ Sauce, Worcestershire or Allegro to the bottom of the Crock Pot, place in the hamburger patties, and pour more sauce on top.  If you have a large slow cooker, you can make even more at the same time, or make multiple batches for two or more Crock Pots for a large crowd.  You can also make several batches ahead of time, refrigerate, and just warm on the grill at the party.

If you already have a favorite hamburger recipe you love to cook outside the Crock Pot, you can use it too!    For even faster cook time, brown the hamburger patties lightly in the skillet or on the grill before placing them in the slow cooker.

Don’t forget Dessert

Just about everybody enjoys chocolate and almost nobody can resist a fondue.  That means you basically can’t go wrong if you prepare a chocolate fondue for dessert at your Halloween Party.  This is another perfect opportunity to dress your Crock Pot up like a witch’s cauldron.  You can also find novelty Halloween skewers for the occasion.  All you need to do to create a fantastic Crock Pot Chocolate Fondue Recipe is to add semisweet chocolate chips, some milk, and some vanilla and almond extract in the slow cooker and put it on high.  Stir occasionally until all the chocolate chips have melted and it is a smooth consistency.  Turn the fondue down to low to serve.  Be creative with the foods you present for dipping.  Put out cookies in fun Halloween shapes like pumpkins or buy specially shaped pretzels made exclusively during the Halloween season.

Time is precious in today’s crazy world.  Throwing a party at Halloween to bring together friends and family doesn’t have to be a hassle.  Crock Pot cooking allows you to cook large amounts of food at once to feed those hungry partygoers, and it does most of the work for you so you have time to mingle and enjoy your gathering instead of wasting half your time in the kitchen.  Because Crock Pot cooking is so simple and safe, it is a great opportunity to bring your kids into the kitchen to help.  They will be twice as proud to take food to a school party if they can say they helped make it themselves!  Use your imagination and let your Halloween party be fully enjoyed by all!
